Choosing a car as a homesteader can be tough. There are countless things to consider. Generally speaking, you will cross rougher terrain than the average city dweller, you will get your car dirty more often and you will probably keep it longer than most people keep cars based on standard homesteader habits. So what is the best car for you? I’ll give you my top 5 best car’s for homesteaders.
(NOTE: This article does not include anything in the truck category. We all know that trucks are amazing to have for a homestead but if your looking for an all around vehicle that’s good for family, tough as nails, and good for fun – this is for you!)
My husband drives one and I can attest. They are a great vehicle for many things. For comfort and spaciousness, not so much. They also have less than stellar towing capabilities which is the main reason they are #5 on this list. I find them to be a great vehicle especially if you live off the beaten path or own dozens of acres and need to make sure you can keep up with all of it. They are very capable when well equipped which makes then a good vehicle for homesteaders.
4. Chevy Tahoe
You really can’t go wrong with a Tahoe. They’re big, their bad, and their beautiful. They can tow and have great storage space and seating comfort.
The Explorer is a beautiful car with tons of great features as of late. These vehicles can seemingly do it all and do it in comfort and style. They can tow, they have spacious interiors, and I don’t think anyone would complain about a long ride anywhere in this vehicle.
The Outback. A fun little car for adventure filled living. Their reliability makes them a good choice for homesteaders plus the extra long cabin is great for hauling around all sorts of animals inside our car.
P.S. I have the Subaru Crosstrek in Cool Grey Khaki on my dream list if anyone would like to gift one to this homesteader.
This is #1 of my list of vehicles for homesteaders so it should come as no surprise when you hear that this is the car I personally own. With 4×4 you can rest easy knowing your car can go places, it has a spacious cabin, towing capabilities, and a large trunk space. Fun Fact: You can put an entire filled pallet straight from the forklift into the back of your gran Cherokee with no problems. How do I know this? We’ve done it.
