While pregnant, I had a bit of a sticker shock at the cost of all things baby. Daycare that costs more than a mortgage, diapers costing more than my weekly family food budget. The list goes on, I was in shock and overwhelmed at the price of everything. So I set out to find cheaper alternatives and in the process stumbled across the idea of cloth diapers.
We’ve been doing cloth (whenever at home) for a few weeks now and I’m so thankful for the additional blessing it has been to our family. Here are 3 main reasons why we love cloth diapering.
Cloth diapers are a one time fee. While they are more expensive than regular diapers to begin with, with time and use they quickly become a cheaper option.
Cloth diapering is more gentle on the environment because you are no longer creating excess waste multiple times per day. Cloth diapering also reduces waste through less packaging, shipping, and product vs. your standard disposable diapers.
Better for Babies Skin
Does your baby struggle with rashes or other skin problems because of disposables? Many babies suffer allergic reactions to the products in diapers. This is because baby skin is so soft and sensitive that it can’t handle all of the harsh chemical compounds adult skin often can. Cloth diapers offer an alternative to putting tons of chemicals on your child’s skin or causing them to continually suffer from rashes because of disposables. Cloth is also better for the skin because it naturally absorbs without the chemical beads that are in disposables.
While I know cloth diapering isn’t for everyone it is a good option for those looking for alternatives or concerned about any of those 3 categories. If you cloth diaper, please let us know in the comments below!
