As we look toward the new year there are dozens of fresh opportunities that will come along with that. How do you keep them all organized? How do you schedule time for everything? Honestly, I don’t. I can’t do it all, have to say “no” to a lot of things and often miss out. But the beauty of having a planner is the ability to say “yes” to a lot of things too because you’ve created a plan. You’ve designed and organized a life that you want to live filled with things you’ve said yes too. It’s a beautiful thing when you learn to balance it all and while I wouldn’t consider myself a master of these things I feel confidant when I say that using a planner has made me more successful.
When I decided to start writing about homesteading there were so many topics that came to mind. I’d make a quick note of it in my phone and then move on with life. I was working, running, cooking dinner, keeping our home clean, taking care of plants and animals and somehow hoping to add “blogging”to the mix. It didn’t happen overnight but soon, with careful planning and the daily use of my planner blogging became a normal weekly part of my routine. I left margin for it. I made writing dates with myself and in turn have seen huge success because of it. Here are 5 ways that having a planner will make you more successful.
Planners Keep You Motivated
Without my planner I’d have quit running, writing, pet care, and meal planning 1000x over the past year. When I can look down at a sheet of paper and see my goals set out before me it makes it infinitely easier to accomplish them if for no other reason then to check it off. Using a planner will help you stay on track and keep you moving forward, whether it’s a giant leap for that day or a baby step, getting to check something off and seeing your tasks complete gives you the satisfaction of a day well spent.
Planners Show You Where You Can Improve
For me, if a task isn’t completed one day it gets moved to the next day, and the next, until it’s done. If there is something I’ve been putting off for days or even weeks my planner helps me visually see that I’m slacking and makes it painfully clear that I need to step it up and just finish the thing I have set out to do. Whether it’s writing that long blog post or finishing a home painting project the planner helps you see exactly where you’re slacking and ultimately drives you to the desire to improve, if for no other reason than to never think about that specific thing again.
Planners Don’t Forget
Sorry friends and family, but I’m terrible at remembering birthdays and special occasions. A planner can keep you on track! Year after year if you transfer those important dates and events over to the new planner it won’t get lost or forgotten. You’ll turn to that fresh month, day, or week and realize whatever important event is about to come up needs your attention.
Planners Stay Organized
No matter how crazy or chaotic your day may become, the planner can help keep you grounded and more organized. I love how my planner helps me visually map out my day so I’m not driving all over the world to run errands or crossing the globe to pick up groceries. The planner helps me stay neat and organized not only on paper, but in my day to day life as well.
Planners Help You Feel in Control
How many times have you come to the end of your day and felt that everything went wrong, nothing was accomplished, and your day had spun out of control? I know I can’t be the only person to have had a day or two like this. Having a planner helps you visually see that throughout all the chaos things were still getting done and no matter how rough it may have gone you still did a good job at accomplishing whatever it was you set out to do.
As we look toward the new year consider adding a planner to your daily, weekly, or monthly routine. Here are some of my favorite planners if you’re looking for tips on which one to get to help set you on the right path for success in the new year:
